Colour Service Glossary

Consider this page your dictionary for the hair colour services I offer. I'll break down each service as best I can, but don't worry, I'm here if you have any additional questions. Also, if you choose me as your stylist, I'll send out a digital consultation form where I'll be able to help you narrow down the service options best suited to your needs. Additionally, we'll also have a thorough in-person consultation the day of your appointment.

With hair colouring services evolving, it's no longer a one size fits all, "partial highlight, full highlight" world. A partial custom colour has many options, from partial highlights to partial balayage, lived-in colour, and fashion colours. The "partial" stands for half of the head. You get a big pop of colour, but there's still lots of dimension.

Investment starts at $160

Packages worth looking at for this are The Mini Glow and The Glow Up.

With a full custom colour the "full" stands for the entire head. As with the partial custom colour, your possibilities are vast. This can include anything from a traditional full head of highlights, to full balayage, to a partial highlight plus root touch-up or root to end colour.

Investment starts at $210

Packages worth looking at are The Glow Up and The Brilliance.

Balayage is when you hand paint the hair. It creates a very soft, natural colour. It can achieve a sun-kissed look, brighten up your ends, or create bold pops of colour. Balayage can also be done with the use of foils. It's not a one size fits all service and each colour is created uniquely for the guest.

The definition of Ombre is "having tones of colour that shade into each other, graduating from light to dark." You can apply this technique to many colour combinations.

long blonde highlighted lived in hair

Lived-in colour is perfect for friends wanting to space out their visits to the salon. A lived-in colour is low maitence and soft. It's the gift that keeps on giving, as when the colour fades and grows out it still looks great. This service gives you plenty of options for when and what you decide to do while "touching up." Once you have the lived-in base started, you can pop in for money piece refreshes or glosses whenever you're feeling like a change, saving the big colour for whenever you see fit.

Semi-permanent vivids are perfect for friends who like a splash or tidal wave of fun colour in their hair, but who also like changing it so the fade-out of the colour isn't so frustrating. There are many ways to add fun colour to your life, from a very temporary shampoo or colour mask, to a longer-lasting direct dye colour appointment. The sky's the limit here.

When choosing to do a permanent vivid colour, gone are the days of pushing back your shampoos and washing in cold water. This colour line is made to stay. It's a great option for friends who love vivids and don't want to change it every month or two. This colour lasts for months, even years. It's a commitment in that it usually requires pre-lightening, and once you have it it's very tricky to get out.

Going grey is definitely a process for both stylist and guest but mostly guest as they're the ones likely already attempting to grow out their natural colour. If you decide you want to speed up the process, there are many ways I can help. One way is to gradually highlight and tone. Another way is to do it in a full day appointment. I match your natural grey pattern while highlighting and lowlighting the coloured areas. These still sometimes take a few sessions and regular toning is recommended.

A colour correction is correcting a colour, from home DIY projects, to poorly done professional colours. Also,  for transitioning from dark to light, or light to dark. This service requires a solid plan, thorough consultation, and a lot of patience. Colour corrections often take multiple sessions.

The money piece is a nick name for the highlights that frame your face. There are many variations from very soft and natural to incredibly bold. This is always an included option in any blonding service. However, this can also be a stand-alone service and a lovely budget-friendly way to treat yourself when you need a freshening up. Pairs well with a hairline detail for a perfect ponytail!

A shadow root is simply a darker root in literally any colour you would like. you can have a small shadow or large, natural or vivid. the sky's the limit.

Its purpose is to soften the colour and help with the grow out.

A gloss is changing the tone and adding shine to your hair. It's essential to most blonding services and tends to marry the colours together. it's a great addition to touch-ups and mini services. A gloss is a real treat for any guest.
